Today Lyn and I dropped Ross off for his first day at school. Ross was OK until we got inside the school and then he was apprehensive. Inside the classroom he was shy. Then we asked him for a kiss goodbye and he didn't want us to leave. He buried his head in his hands and cried. He didn't cling or throw a fit as we left but he was sad. Once Lyn and I got back in my truck, we said a prayer for Ross, the other kids, his teacher, the other teachers, the building, etc...
Yeah, I'll admit it, I already emailed his teacher..."please don't hesitate to call me..."
Happy update: I picked Ross up this afternoon and he had a good day. He was in a good mood when I picked him up. He discovered his buddy Scott was at school with him (in another class) so that was comforting. They learned where things are in the classroom. They ate lunch in the cafeteria (chili).
Most important of all, Ross announced proudly that he kept all his "tokens" today. There is a system in which he starts the day with three tokens in his treasure chest. If he misbehaves, he'll have to go up and take one of his tokens down and drop it in another chest. Kids with enough tokens left at the end of the week get a prize.
"Don't get too excited Daddy", Ross told me. "I had to work very hard to keep those tokens."
